OneEgg in Zambia
NET Development Incorporated launched a OneEgg pilot project in April 2024 to address stunted growth among children under five. What began as a simple feeding program sustained by a local broiler chicken farm has blossomed into a community development project.
Moms walk up to five kilomaters a day, one way to the Mansansa Health Post to eat a boiled egg with their child, which they may have carried there. We also welcome pregnant and lactating mothers. Since studies show that proper protein in the first 1,000 days prevents stunting, this simple egg is making a lasting difference.
Holding the program at the health post has the added benefit of helping moms feel comfortable with a local nurse who encourages regular checkups and vaccinations.
In May 2025, we hosted a five-hour Dream Day seminar for these mothers, adapting the material designed for adolescent girls. Many had lingering questions about their bodies and menstrual health; we addressed myths while affirming their worth.
In that safe space, they voiced frustration about being unable to provide for their families and concerns for the youth in their community who seem destined to repeat the cycle of poverty. Two significant outcomes have resulted from those conversations
First, we sponsored 17 women to attend two farming training sessions and encouraged them to add peanuts as a cash crop to their usual crops.
We will partner with Food and Trees for Africa to bring a 14-course training to this group of women, who will be joined by five men from their community - a major win in this culture.
The second positive outcome is that four of the moms who attended the Dignity Day took part in a five-day training to become DD seminar facilitators. They are excited about bringing this important ministry to the youth of their community. They have already scheduled two seminars for this summer.
Momentum is building, and a new sense of hope has come to this village.
Plans are being made for the broiler operation to expand and OneEgg feeding programs to grow into other community clinics as funding allows. Join us!
