OneEgg in Ethiopia

In partnership with the Yetebon based non profit Project Mercy, OneEgg has expanded its reach to help fund a full layer farm where several hundred baby chicks arrive on a continuous basis. Today, about 1,000 baby chicks arrive to the poultry farm on land which Project Mercy has partnered with OneEgg to use. Through Project Mercy’s existing work, over 280 children are served eggs through their School Meal Program.

When Project Mercy first came to Yetebon over twenty years ago the local community identified healthcare as a priority need. Today Project Mercy's 52-bed hospital serves over 60,000 patients. Project Mercy addresses another priority in the community—education. In 1996 a school was started with 358 students. Today 1,600 students in grades K-12 are receiving an education. Project Mercy launched a dairy cattle breeding project in 2006. Milk is improving children's nutrition while providing sustainable income for families. In 2018 Project Mercy and OneEgg partnered to provide eggs to children to improve their health and provide jobs in the local community.

On the farm, the team has worked to help balance the right amount of feed and natural light for the birds to lay the most amount of eggs.
